Side Effect have secured Division 1 after winning PoroPark Masters Qualifier #2 with a 3–0 series record. We caught up with the team after their run to discuss their performance, roster plans and what to expect when the Masters season begins.
Side Effect Win PoroPark Masters Qualifier #2
Side Effect have secured their place in Division 1 of the PoroPark Masters after completing a strong run through Qualifier #2.
The team finished the qualifier with a 3–0 series record and a 6–1 game record, defeating Indecisive, Blue Sapphire and Team Nice Swedes on their way to the top of the bracket.
From the opening series to Division 1
Side Effect opened the tournament with a 2–0 victory over Indecisive.
The team then faced Blue Sapphire in the second round, where they were pushed further before eventually closing out the series 2–1.
That sent Side Effect into the final against Team Nice Swedes, where they completed their run and secured their Division 1 qualification.
The result puts Side Effect among the teams heading into the PoroPark Masters Division 1 season in February 2027.
Side Effect on their performance
Despite the tournament victory, the team believes there is still plenty to improve before the Masters season begins.
“There's always room for improvement. I will say that we had some issues with our decision making during the games, but overall our performance was great and I am really proud of what we were able to achieve.”
Their opening series against Indecisive also gave them an early opportunity to adapt.
“Indecisive had some strong plays, especially in Game 2, however we were able to swiftly identify their playstyle and managed to take the series.”
For Side Effect, the objective from the beginning was clear:
“I think we wanted to show that we were set to qualify into the 1st division.”
Changes could be coming
The lineup that won Qualifier #2 may not be the exact same roster that takes the server when the Masters season begins.
One of the players had to step in for the team's support player during the qualifier.
“I had to fill in for our support as he could not play. So we're definitely going to see some changes for the upcoming tournament.”
That means Side Effect still have some decisions to make before their first Division 1 series.
Ready for stronger competition
With Division 1 secured, the team says they are looking forward to facing opponents around their level — or even stronger.
“We're hoping to see players similar to our level, if not even better!”
The qualifier has given Side Effect their first taste of the Masters path. The next challenge will be translating that performance into the league environment.
The goal: start with a win
For Side Effect, the opening series of the Masters season will be an important first test.
“I think starting with a win will help our team a lot. So we're definitely going to try our best and win our first game series.”
After winning their qualifier, the team now has its sights set on making an immediate impact in Division 1.
What should viewers expect?
Side Effect also have a message for anyone following the Masters season.
“We hope people will spectate us and root for us in the upcoming tournament. The viewers should expect a much more coordinated team.”
That leaves Side Effect with a clear next step: take the momentum from Qualifier #2 and build an even more coordinated lineup before the Masters season begins.
Side Effect are through to Division 1. The next chapter starts in February.
